The person and their office

Some time ago, the Alliance for Democracy raised the discussion of whether there actually has to be a Federal President at all. This was the twilight time of Christian Wulff. Today we have Head of State Gauck, who on the occasion of the national celebrations on 7th October at the Festival of Lights in Leipzig steadfastly refused to talk about the subject about which the BILD was so angry, but then, probably after a violent rebuke from Berlin, held up the President as the man who was to be presented to the people by image consultants and political managers following the fall of Christian Wulff – one who “bowed to Leipzig’s heroes of the change”.
Because we always like to learn from politics, so we learn these days that remaining silent means prostrating oneself, and this is the kind of deference that a Federal President has for his people. We conclude from this that the continued silence of Angela Merkel over the actual progress of the Euro crisis accordingly means the humility of a Chancellor. And CDU then means: Who believes it is blessed! Belief is after all free, but less stirring, and Angela M. has very different concerns with her office. She is damned by her office, so to speak, to talk rubbish and lies, because the Euro rescue cannot be called anything else, and otherwise the revolution would already have blown Angela M. out of the offices of the Republic.

In the case of Gauck, it must be feared that the “stirred uncle image“ of the ex-Minister was trying at the Leipzig festivities to belie at any cost the book by Mario Frank, which called Gauck choleric, a womanizer, a stickler for red tape, and also tired and above all scatterbrained.
If Gauck had spoken in Leipzig, it would have been possible that Leipzig might have answered. The Saxons, known to be bright, know what a slowcoach Gauck is and perhaps the mood of the ex-revolutionaries would suddenly have changed from sentimental to active – and then we might have had a new uprising, and Mr. Gauck would then have been responsible for the fact that Angela M. would have had to be pried out of her Regent’s seat. In this case, silence is easier! And that also suits Gauck. He likes to be governed: nicely ensconced in office, well tied up in being cute, subservient. A good servant of God and the ruler of the state may also have her turn now and again, since this is what Gauck is paid for after all.

This all brings us back to the question of why we need such an office, or should we perhaps rather ask who is the most suitable person to fill it? Gauck does not fill it, as Mario Frank confirms with his portrait. The ex-adapted, who cannot stop being adaptable, was good enough to sign the ESM/Fiscal Pact. As a pastor, material goods are of no concern to him. As Federal President, he has such a high income that his wife can afford everything that she wants, and that he can afford all the women he wants.
It is clear that Gauck, the pastor, the former East German, cannot understand at all that 80 million German citizens would like to keep their hard-earned money and not see it thrown away without being asked, to an ailing Europe. And the Parliament too is completely foreign to Gauck. What it means to protect the budgetary sovereignty of these representatives of the people, who protect the budget of the people, and in which Gauck would have ensured, by refusing to sign, that the ESM would not have been ratified – Gauck fails to understand these relationships at all. He blithely signed his name to these ridiculous documents, which were so important to Angela Merkel, and then took a little afternoon nap, while Merkel and the ECB rubbed their hands in glee. The figure of Gauck did his intended job perfectly on the chessboard of Europe. So people cling to their offices, although they are entirely unsuitable for them, and this is how politics functions: a leader of state must be able to do this, and a female head of state must do it all the better – this is the compulsion of office, a sort of obsession which takes over those reach such office.

This brings us back to Christian Wulff, who as a person was happy to see an advantage, but as Federal President worked against the ESM/Fiscal Pact, and thereby ensured that national bankruptcy could become reality for the Merkel government. Since no insolvency regulation was created for Germany, just like any other Euro-European country, it meant that the Germans would have to pay with their savings for the losses of the banks, just as the Cypriots are having to do.
And so it continues for Merkel until today. The ESM/Fiscal Pact could do nothing against the insidious national bankruptcy and the savings of the people continue to serve as security of the state to take out more loans, in order to continue to be able to operate at all. Angela M. is lying persistently when she claims that this is not so, and even guarantees that the savings of the Germans are secure – they are not. It is also clear that this news is not necessarily intended to reach the people, because they should be nice and fat like the Christmas goose in financial terms, and of course completely carefree and ready for dressing. Wulff was in favour of granting the citizen due creditor protection, and was also in favour of the ESM/Fiscal Pact, and above all its purpose and consequences, being publicly known. And for this, he was thrown out of the game.

Wulff appeared to be an upstart, who risked a thick lip, because this is often the case with politicians who appreciate luxury, women and other status symbols, but in office Wulff adopted an attitude in the matter of the ESM/Fiscal Pact.
A pity that this was what damaged his career, and continues to do so today, since proceedings have been instituted against Wulff.
So offices and people go their separate ways, although for a moment at least they belonged together.
For the man Christian Wulff it is currently also a question of the lack of evidence of any acceptance of benefit. If this accusation is confirmed, Wulff’s emoluments will be withdrawn. That would be good for the Treasury, which all taxpayers pay into. Wulff, the ex-Federal President, might then have been able to thumb his nose, perhaps exactly because he appreciated money, and was (also) concerned about the material security of the Germans. But then Wulff would also have lost his financial livelihood – the responsible employment agency would certainly have no difficulty in assisting Wulff with a language course or job-seeking course. It would be obliged to do so by office.
But perhaps it will not come to the point where Wulff has to live below the minimum subsistence level, because he still has one thing: the truth about how he came to be removed from office. To write a book about it, or to refer to it in the media, would not go down well with some people in Berlin. Let us therefore await the wondrous outcome of the Public Prosecutor’s investigations, and observe the origin of a completely unnecessary legal dispute, which will end in Wulff being acquitted in some form, because the state is more willing to afford such senseless expenditure at the cost of the taxpayer than it is to reveal the truth. This is Wulff’s best insurance, which even allows him to remain at the court of Angela M., while others are hounded out. Let us remember the plagiarisers Guttenberg and Schavan, who have now been expelled. Gutti is somewhere in America and Schavan has taken refuge in Munich, where she has landed a post on the University Council. Maybe there was still a favour due here, and hopefully the academician Schavan can do something academic there, if the students do not first protest so much against this embarrassment of Schavan’s appointment that those at the University who are disposed to Schavan must decide to get rid of her, as should be the case. In any event, this would serve to prevent damage to the office. This also has to happen from time to time – and would be a good example for the office of Federal President as it is held today, because a cute Federal President is of no use to the people. This damages the office more than any legally untenable accusation. And these accusations against Wulff – justified or not – are all less important than corruption and fraud, which the Merkel government attempted in order to deprive the Germans and the Europeans of their livelihoods. And all this without the risk of prosecution!
