HeadbombIntent of Letter to the
HeadbombIfo Institute

On its website, the CESifo Group Munich is described as follows:
“The CESifo Group, consisting of the Center for Economic Studies (CES), the Ifo Institute and the CESifo GmbH (Munich Society for the Promotion of Economic Research) is a research group unique in Europe in the area of economic research. It combines the theoretically oriented economic research of the university with the empirical work of a leading Economic research institute and places this combination in an international environment.
The services of the CESifo Group range from internationally established service products, such as the Ifo Business Climate Index, to internationally acclaimed research, the promotion of junior researchers and the numerous, widely publicised contributions to policy debate at the national and European levels.
CESifo is also the core of a research network consisting of former visiting researchers at CES. CESifo is also the trade name under which the international activities of Ifo, CES and CESifo GmbH are bundled.”
The associated institutes are the Ifo Institute – Leibniz-Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung an der Universität München e. V. (Leibniz Institute for Economic Research at the University of Munich) and the Center for Economic Studies (CES), as well as the Münchener Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wirtschaftswissenschaft (Munich Society for the Promotion of Economic Research), or CESifo GmbH.
The following is stated with regard to the so-called Ifo Centers, which form part of the association of CESifo Group Munich research facilities:
“Whereas Ifo’s research has a strong policy orientation, research at CES is more theory oriented. The close co-operation in the form of joint working groups, projects, publications and seminars contributes to giving empirical research a more solid theoretical foundation and directing university research more strongly than before in an empirical direction and more suited to policy needs. Despite the different orientations, the quality standards are the same: the research is attuned to the international discussion and conforms to international standards of excellence.”
This may be the only way to explain why publications such as the most recent by Ifo President Hans-Werner Sinn indicate that the politics have long failed, although he does not make this so clear in his reports to Berlin.
Perhaps it is unnecessary to explain to the Merkel Government that the state is broke, since it has long been aware of this, but nothing has changed because they could lose their political power. Therefore, it can be assumed that facts have been concealed by the working peace accord between political parties in Berlin, facts which Sinn leaves out of his reports to Berlin but attempts to explain in his books. To clarify this, the Alliance for Democracy sent a Letter to the Ifo President. It remains to be seen whether the Ifo president, who claims on his website to conduct research for the people, will respond to our questions or retreat to his role as Ifo president, which apparently forbids him from speaking openly.
